Go Dog Go!
Black Dog Ale is an English Style Amber Ale. It actually pours a very dark amber, with a moderate head. It has a nice, full-bodied taste, a little hoppy, a little malty, very drinkable.
The black lab on the label was a real dog, the founder’s dog Chug. There’s even a section dedicated to him on their web site.
So what’s the story behind Spanish Peaks Brewing Company? Well, their Flagship Beer was first brewed in Bozeman, MT in 1991. I remember drinking it back then, but the labels were different. The internet seems to have very little information about the brewery. It appears it may have shut down in 2002, but then re-emerged in 2008 or 2009.
Based on what I’ve read on the label and a couple other sites, it may be brewed in Saratoga Springs NY, Frederick MD, LaCrosse WI, Denver CO. Which leads me to believe that its now contract brewed at a few breweries around the country.
To make things even more confusing, the web site says © US Beverage, Stamford CT. WTF?
BTW, Biggest Loser Weigh-in is tomorrow. I'm predicting 1 to 2 pounds lost over last week. I'll let you know how that goes!
