Dry wit. I got
mine in a 22 ounce bottle. Where’d you
get yours?
‘Tis the season for
seasonal whites and wits. Pike Dry Wit,
from Pike Brewing in Seattle, is another Belgian-style
top fermenting, spiced wheat beer, made
in America, not unlike Allagash White.
Pike Dry Wit is lightly spiced with orange peel, lavender, chamomile and
and coriander seeds.
So here’s a taste
test challenge to some of my readers, especially one who’s lobbying for a VG
grade for Allagash White. Get yourself a
bottle of Allagash White, Pike Dry Wit and, just for the hell of it, Blue Moon. And conduct a blind taste test. You may need a little help, since attempting
to pour beer into glasses while blindfolded is a shame, and may result in a
drunken dog.
Here’s my
prediction. It will be a close race, but
Pike Wit will be the clear (actually, turbid) winner. I think Pike has just a bit more unique taste
and little more bite from the hops. And the
Blue Moon? Fuggedaboutit.
