“If you knew the man behind this tribute, this ale needs no explanation.  If you didn’t, we’re sorry.”

Two miles down the road from Left Hand Brewing in Longmont, Colorado, is Oskar Blues Brewing Company.  If I lived in that town, I’d be drunk all the time.

The quote above is on the can of Oskar Blue’s G’Knight Imperial Red, and the beer is a tribute to Gordon Knight, a legendary local brewer and apparently larger than life character.  Up until early this year, the beer in the silver and green can was actually just called Gordon.  But those bullies over at Gordon Biersch gave Oskar Blues a cease and desist order to stop using the name Gordon after 7 years of producing the beer.

G’Knight is an Imperial Red / Double IPA, with a high alcohol content (8.7% ABV) and hops bitterness.  It’s a deep red ale with a moderate head, and it does have a significant hop taste.  I think it’s a good beer for its style, but a bit too bitter for me.  And thanks to HHH for bringing this beer and a few others over the other day.
