Nice beer, JL Chamberlain!
Shipyard’s year-round Chamberlain Pale Ale is one that I’ve passed by in
the beer aisle several times. It looks
pretty boring, some old Civil War dude with a big bushy moustache on the
label. The dude is Joshua Lawrence
Chamberlain, a Mainer who rose to the rank of brigadier general in the
Union Army.
The beer is a milder American Pale Ale, hoppy but not too hoppy. It’s an attractive burnt orange color in the
glass, with a nice foamy head. Very refreshing, with a slightly distinct
taste.
Don’t pass the general by!
If you read "Killer Angels" by Michael Shaara, you see that Joshua Chamberlain was actually one of the Union heroes of Gettysburg. In fact, is brigade repelled a charge by the Confederate troops that would, without his defense, would likely have overrun Union lines, and changed the course of the battle, and perhaps the war, and perhaps history. He's one of my favorite Civil War figures and I'm glad his beer got a VG.
