Remembering 9/11

On this 10th anniversary of 9/11, what could be more American than a Pabst Blue Ribbon?  A lot of beers could be better than PBR, but few more American.

The small Epiphany of our Lord Byzantine Catholic Church around the corner from our house holds an annual Slavic Festival every September.  My wife, being of Ukrainian descent, looks forward to this event every year, especially because of the food.  Long lines of people wait for authentic Slavic dishes like kielbasa, pierogies, halupke, haluski and latkes.  There is a polka band, games for the kids, raffles, crafts, a bake sale, and, of course, a beer truck.

The beer truck had 3 taps today – Yuengling, Miller Lite, and Pabst Blue Ribbon.  Oh, why not?  I grabbed a PBR to go with my kielbasa and latkes.  In addition to the PBR being… well.. PBR, it was also a little warm.  I didn’t expect much, and that’s what I got.

I do have fond/fuzzy memories of picking up six packs of PBR for $1.50 to $2.00 in college, before it became re-gentrified and now costs $4 to $5 a can at a bar.
