A brief history of German immigration into Texas.
Really? If you really want this
history, click here.
With all of the German descendents in Texas, there are a lot of Octoberfest
celebrations in Texas, the biggest of which is in New Braunfels, about an hour
southwest of Austin.
Another 70 miles down the road is Shiner, home of the Spoetzl
Brewery. Shiner first marketed their
Oktoberfest as “Shiner 96” in 2005, as a specialty beer counting down to their
100th anniversary. They
brought it back in 2010 as an annual fall seasonal.
Unfortunately, I’m gonna give Shiner Oktoberfest the lowest score of
this Oktoberfest Beer Run (so far). This
Oktoberfest tasted lighter and fizzier than the other Marzens, and had a faint
soapy aftertaste. There’s lot of other Oktoberfest
beers out there. I’d recommend you skip
this one.
So after 3 beers each, Germany has pulled ahead of the USA by 4 points.
