The Cotleigh Brewery in southern England partners with and supports the The Hawk and Owl Trust, a UK charity dedicated to conserving owls and other birds of prey in the wild. Most of their beers are named after birds, which are represented on their labels.
The Barn Owl Premium Bitter has been in the Cotleigh lineup since 1982. It pours a deep copper, almost brown color, with a very thin head. It has a thick, rich taste, malty and maybe a little nutty. It was a beer that made me go, “Mmmmm.”

To those you who may be newer to different beer styles, the name “Bitter” in the beer doesn’t necessarily mean it’s among the most bitter tasting beers. In general, American Pale Ales and India Pale Ales tend to be more bitter tasting than Bitter beers.
I found a good reference chart on comparing the bitterness range of different beers from Brewersfriend.com. See below and click on the image.
