Mad Fox vs. Lost Rhino
Chocolate City vs. DC Brau vs. Port City

As part of DC Beer Week, Mad Fox Brewing Company in Falls Church, VA hosted the 2nd Annual Dominion Cup Kill-a-Keg Competition.  At 6pm, a keg from each of these local breweries was tapped.

    * Chocolate City - Copper Ale
    * DC Brau - The Citizen Belgian Strong Blonde Ale
    * Lost Rhino - New River Pale Ale
    * Port City - Monumental IPA
    * Mad Fox - Orange Whip IPA

Whichever keg kicked first was declared the winner.  I did my part by downing 16 ounces of the Lost Rhino New River Pale Ale and another 16 ounces of Chocolate City Copper Ale.

Lost Rhino Brewing in Ashburn, VA was started by 2 former brewers at Old Dominion Brewery (now part of Fordham Brewing in Delaware).  They bought the original Old Dominion brewhouse (equipment) along with the rights to the New River Pale Ale recipe.  The NRPA was a nice golden color, and had a crisp, hoppy taste, with just a little sweetness.

Mad Fox’s Orange Whip IPA kicked first and won the challenge.  I’ve got to think they had a bit of a home tap advantage – there were no signs promoting the other beers, so you had to know to ask for them.
