Oh where, or where, did my little dog go?
He got lost in Napa Valley, that’s where! Doesn’t he know that Napa is for wine, not beer?
Never heard of the Napa Smith Brewery? Neither did I until I was stocking up for the Dog Beer Run. I’m not sure how long their brewery has been around, but in September of 2010 they filed for Chapter 7 bankruptcy, and in October they were acquired by Pelican Brands, a “beverage management” company in Indiana.
Pelican’s mission is to “take on brands, re-engineer them as needed and ignite them for the next stage of accelerated growth.”
Looks like Napa Smith needs to update their website:
“Napa Smith is owned and operated by family and friends, only. Our sons and daughters work daily to bring you this fine line of beers. You can talk to any one of us, at any time, and, should you decide to visit us at the Brewery, we will gladly drop what we are doing and show you around
Cheers!
The Smith Family”
Cheers!
The Smith Family”
Anyway, Pelican was apparently successful in expanding Napa Smith’s distribution into 16 states, including my home state of Viriginia.
Napa Smith currently produces only 3 beers – an Amber Ale, a Pale Ale and a Wheat Beer. Lost Dog is the Amber Ale, and it pours a nice clear (surprise) amber color, with a moderate head. The taste is smooth, with just a mild taste of hops. When this beer quest is over, I could definitely see me grabbing a six pack of this to restock the fridge.
