Baltimore’s Camden Yards is truly a great ballpark.  With the Nationals now playing in DC, it’s rare that I make it up there much anymore.  I’m not a die-hard Nats or O’s fan, I just enjoy a good ballgame and the whole ballpark experience.

When in Bal’mer, you gotta get a Bal’mer beer, right hon?  So let’s see what they have at the beer stands.  Loose Cannon?  Had that?  Clipper City Gold?  Had that.  Flying Dog IPA from nearby Frederick?  Had that.  Hmmm…  Bud Light?  Skip that.  Coors Light?  Strictly forbidden.

And then there it was, The Raven Special Lager from Baltimore-Washington Beer Works, of Baltimore.  Only $8 for a 16 ounce plastic cup of cold, malty goodness, what a deal.  This was a decent, brownish lager, I’d say a little bit better than a Yuengling Lager.

Apparently, Baltimore-Washington Beer Works (BWBW) only produces this one beer.  The story is two that Baltimoreans and a German beer importer created The Raven’s recipe in the Black Forest region of Germany – an American style beer for a European market.  They operated in Europe for a year, and then began production in Baltimore.  However, the BWBW doesn’t show an address on their website… I suspect it may be contract brewed, but I don’t know by which brewery.

And then, wouldn’t you know it – just after we bought our beers, we passed a Natty Boh stand on our way to our seats on the other side of the stadium.  If I make it back to an another O’s game this year, you can definitely expect a review of the beer from the land of pleasant living.  And a Polock Johnny’s sausage.

(Sorry, didn’t get a picture of the beer in the glass, just the tap handle.  Here’s some other dude’s picture of the beer.)
