Self portrait, with beer.

I met a friend at the newest outpost of The Lost Dog Café, in McLean, VA, just down the road from Tyson’s Corner.  The setup of this place is similar to the two Arlington locations, great beer selection (both on premise and to go), same menu of great sandwiches and gourmet pizzas.  My only complaint would be that the place is too small – it’s a brand new location, and based on the popularity of the other locations, you’d think they would have made it a little bigger.

We squeezed into the last two seats at the bar, checked out the draft selection, and ordered up a 21st Amendment Back in Black IPA.  The 21st Amendment Brewery started as a brewpub in San Francisco in 2000.  21A now also distributes their beers pretty much nationwide in cans.

The Back in Black IPA adds rich dark malts to an American IPA recipe.  The resulting brew is very dark in color, has the hop character on an IPA, but also has a roasty malt flavor, maybe a little taste of chocolate too.

Click on the photo above to open it a little larger, and you’ll see me in the blue shirt, sitting at the bar, snapping the picture with my phone.
