A new “go to” beer.

Sawtooth Ale is the flagship beer of Left Hand Brewing in Longmont, Colorado.  Left Hand was starting as Indian Peaks Brewing in 1993, but had to change their name when they heard that name was already in use.  They changed their name to Left Hand, in honor of Chief Niwot (the Arapahoe word for "left hand") whose tribe wintered in the local area.

Left Hand is now one of the most respected craft brewers in the country, producing 7 year round beers, and several seasonal and specialty brews.

Sawtooth Ale is an American Style ESB.  It pours a nice amber color into the glass, with a thin, off-white head.  After my year of beer is done, Sawtooth is going on my “go to” list when I go to pick up a six pack.  It’s got a very balanced taste, not too heavy, not too hoppy, with just enough complexity to tell you it’s a quality craft beer.

In my research this morning, I learned that the Left Hand Brewery served as the setting for an independent movie called The Frankenstein Brothers, whose movie poster sports these tag lines:
“Beer can make you crazy. Love will make you crazier.”
“It’s all done with smoke and beers.”

There’s a trailer up on YouTube.  I don’t think this will be making it to your local multiplex anytime soon. Or Blockbuster.  Or Netflix….
